Constant Contact Message from 6/22/2022

Hello everybody!

I want to thank Fr. Tony for his service in holding down the fort while I was away on vacation and Fr. Quan left for his vacation, going home to Vietnam for the first time in four years. Fr. Tony is a great blessing for our community! Fr. Quan made it safely after about 30 hours of travel and will be gone for a month as he visits family and friends and has a number of thanksgiving Masses for his ordination. I took a road trip to Niagara Falls, Montreal, Portland, ME, Burlington, VT, and back. Most of the trip was spent with a cousin, his girlfriend, and two dogs. One highlight that was profoundly moving and awe inspiring was the boat ride to the falls. It was an experience of joy and closeness to God that brought tears to my eyes.

It is good to be home and there is much good happening this summer. Our youth ministry participated in a regional lock-in with over 100 youth from multiple parishes, had a service project at Franciscan Kitchen, and will be sending 12 youth and adults on a mission trip to Guatemala in July. Our Vacation Bible Camp was a great success with over 200 children, youth volunteers, and adults. Of course, our summer maintenance projects are in full swing, as well. There are some great pictures below.

We are all still feeling the stress of multiple years of the pandemic and other political and social issues. While we hope to individually recharge and enjoy some time away if possible, as a parish staff, we will be observing something like a sabbath week the first week of July. A sabbath should have time for both prayer and leisure and I have encouraged the staff to work remotely, if possible, and try not to focus on practical immediate tasks, but more reflectively to work on personal development or a strategic review of ministries. In other words, slow down, look around, pray, and rest. Please pray for me and our staff during this time.

Finally, this weekend we will also have the Anointing of the Sick at all of our masses and encourage you to come forward to experience God’s healing and closeness if you are in need. May God, the great physician and healer of our souls, be with us all.

Peace,

Fr. Jeff

Learning Together

Do You Have a Longing for Something More? Come As You Are to the RCIA Process: "Our hearts are restless until they rest in you [God]," said St. Augustine, a very famous saint who lived in the 4th and 5th centuries. St. Augustine was referring to the interior longing in each of us that the world cannot satisfy. Do you have that longing for something more? Maybe what you are longing for is an encounter with the living God and his Son and our Savior Jesus Christ? The RCIA Team at St. Patrick invites you to come as you are. Ask questions. Commit to learning about the Catholic faith and how the Catholic faith family serves God by serving others. Come, pray, and open yourself up to an encounter with the one true God in whose image and likeness you are wonderfully made. The RCIA meets from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m., Mondays, beginning August 22. For information, contact Tim Grove at 719-0362 or tgrove@stpatlou.org.

Serve as a Sponsor in the RCA Process: Every year, men, women, and young adults come to the RCIA process wanting to establish a new or renewed relationship with God and a faith community in the Catholic tradition. Sponsors are always needed to journey with these “inquirers.” Sponsors join the RCIA process in early November and serve as spiritual companions to the inquirers, who seek entry into full communion with the Catholic faith through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Sponsors serve through April as hospitable and welcoming representatives of the parish. Training is provided. Even for sponsors, the RCIA process is a wonderful experience of renewed faith and a deepened spiritual life. If you are feeling called to this form of service, please contact Tim Grove, coordinator of the RCIA, at 719-0362 or tgrove@stpatlou.org.

Sacred Library Suspends Donations of Books During Updating Process: The Sacred Library Team is working hard to update its computer system in order to make the Library more user friendly. We are NOT ACCEPTING DONATIONS through December. Thank you for your patience!

This preparation process is led by St. Patrick School catechists and Parish Religious Education Program [PREP] catechists. It includes three public rituals [all celebrated at 11 a.m. Mass], a Saturday morning retreat, and an afternoon of service.
