Hello everybody!
The Eucharist is the “source and summit” of our faith. It makes us who we are as a family in Christ and his Church. This weekend, September 4/5, the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday’s and Holy Days of Obligation will be restored in the Archdiocese of Louisville. This obligation really flows as an obligation of love, both to receive and to give. The second video in the series shares reflections on what an obligation of love means, not as a burden, but as an opportunity to deepen our love of Christ and others. I hope you enjoy and share.
Taste and See the Goodness of the Lord: Obligation of Love.
With the ongoing Covid-19 situation, please also remember the following:
- The obligation does not apply to:
- Sick
- Have a serious health risk or live in a household with those at risk
- Serve as primary caregivers to those at risk
- Have serious anxiety or concerns about a large-group setting due to Covid
- Are unable to attend Mass in person
- Prudent caution may be exercised with Mass attendance for those who are unable to be vaccinated, such as children under the age of 12.
- Those who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear masks on property. This includes liturgies, events, meetings, funerals, weddings, formation and any other gathering. Masks are supported for anyone who chooses to wear them.
- Masks are required for all school functions. Masks are also required for any programming that involves children who are unable to be vaccinated (Youth Ministry, Prep, Sunday School, etc.).
We are also excited to roll out our new school website at school.stpatlou.org. Please take a look at the great things happening at our school. Finally, I hope you enjoy Labor Day weekend. As a reminder, Mass on Monday will be at 10:00 a.m. instead of our normal
5:00 p.m. time. Additionally, the parish office will be closed for the holiday. God bless you and keep you!
Peace,
Fr. Jeff
Getting to Know Your Parish Family: Tony, Lisa and Will Murphy
The Murphy family has been parishioners for 8 years. Will is in 7th grade at the Academy of Individual Excellence. Here are a few questions we asked Will about St. Patrick:
- What is your favorite part about St. Patrick? Will loves going to church here because he does not go to school here anymore. He loves to help his mom set up the altar before mass, light the candles and put new candles at the Holy Family. Will is happy the baptismal font is filled again because it sometimes felt empty walking into church.
- What would you say to your friends if they asked you why they should come to St. Patrick? “It’s a great school because I went there for a little while. The church is connected to the school and it is really good and nice. You can walk straight to the school from the church.”
Lisa and Tony chose St. Patrick after shopping parishes with schools. They were on a date night and attended a Saturday evening mass here. After mass, our former pastor, Very Rev. Martin A. Linebach stopped them because he knew he had not seen them before. He gave them some information on neighborhoods nearby and that was just the tip of the iceberg for them! The next weekend they were addressed by name and knew this was the place they would call home. Lisa said “ You have to work hard at St. Patrick to not be involved!”
Well done, good and faithful servants! Matthew 25:23
Please consider sharing inspirational stories that you have experienced or would like to share that happen everyday at St. Patrick by emailing or calling Lynne Marshall, Director of Engagement at lmarshall@stpatlou.org or (502) 244-6083.

Enroll Children Now In Christian Initiation Preparation Process: Grades 3-8 who missed earlier opportunities to celebrate the sacraments of initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist – can fulfill those sacraments through a 10-session process that begins in October and concludes with the celebration of the sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday, April 16, 2022. This preparation process is led by Lindsay Mahoney, a St. Patrick School religion teacher. It includes three public rituals [all celebrated at 11 a.m. Mass], a Saturday morning retreat, and an afternoon of service. To enroll or for more information, please contact Tim Grove, Director of Faith Formation at tgrove@stpatlou.org or (502)719-0362.
Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) Offered to students in Grades 1-6 who do not attend a Catholic school: PREP nurtures a child's faith through formation and instruction in scripture and Church Tradition, prayer and worship, community, and service by catechists who work in two-person teams. PREP happens from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings [between the 8:30 and 11 a.m. masses], Sept. 12 through May 8, 2022 in the Commons area, which is one level below the church.
Confirmation Preparation is provided for children in Grades 7/8. Sessions happen from 9am to noon beginning September 19 in Schindler Hall. Visit the Youth Ministry Website for details.
Online Registration Open for Grades 1 to 6 PREP and Grades 7 & 8 Confirmation: Click HERE to complete the two-step process. First step is entering all data on yourselves and your children. Step two is payment. PREP and Confirmation preparation are still $50 per child. That fee has not increased in 18 years. St. Patrick supports families during times of financial hardship. If your current circumstance requires you to request a waiver of the $50 fee per child, contact Tim Grove at (502) 719-0362 or email at tgrove@stpatlou.org.
If Your Child Is Entering 2nd Grade: It’s a sacrament year so please contact Tammy Kessler, Children’s Formation Coordinator at tkessler@stpatlou.org and let her know your child wants to prepare for the sacraments this year. She will respond with all the details.
Parents whose children have particular learning or behavioral needs or would like to homeschool their children in faith formation are asked to contact Tim Grove at (502)719-0362 or tgrove@stpatlou.org. Teaching materials, a sacrament preparation schedule, and other special opportunities will be provided.
