Hello everybody!
In college, I came across, for the first time, a short saying about our relationship with God. Let Go and Let God! It is broad enough to speak to each of our lives. What do we need to let go of? Pride? Sin? Entitlement? Self sufficiency? Ego? Worry? Doubt? Bitterness? Anger? Unforgiveness? And what do we need to let God do? Be God? Forgive? Strengthen? Nourish? Heal? Empower? Provide? Guard? Guide? It may mean something different to each of us, but God meets us where we are. I was reminded of this again on last weekend’s Welcome Retreat. Fr. Quan and I were able to join with the men on that retreat at various times and it was a great blessing to me and reminder, for their own journeys and for mine, of God's personal work in each of our lives. I am grateful to the men who put on the retreat for their effort and witness to God’s love.
I was also able to be present for part of the Women’s Circle W.I.N.E. and Unwind kick-off event last week. A significant number of the women present were at a Women’s Circle event for the first time. Being part of our St. Pat's community also reminds me of God’s work through us. The talent and effort given generously and authentically for the good of others at that event was an inspiration. Like God, we meet each other where we are and are a way God meets others in their need. We “Let God” work through us!
On October 9/10, we will begin this year’s Catholic Services Appeal (CSA). Last year, in the midst of uncertainty and challenge, we far exceeded our goal for the campaign in dollars and the number of donors. Although Fr. Jeff Nicolas, the Pastor of St. Bernadette, and I have had some good natured ribbing (I guess, mostly on my part) because we moved ahead of them to the number three spot for total gifts to CSA, I am truly humbled by your generous spirit and the desire to let God work through you. The theme for this year is Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in YOU. (Watch the VIDEO). With trust and faith in God, it reminds me of another saying I encountered in high school: If not now, when? If not you, who? As an opportunity in each of our spiritual journeys to engage with God and make a difference for the better in the lives of others, I am excited about what we will let God do through us for others through the CSA this year. Thank you!
As we continue to face changes and challenges, may God be our foundation and steadfast support. May God continue to bless you and bless others through you.
Peace,
Fr. Jeff

Blood Drive Sunday, October 17 from 9:00 am-2:00 pm in the Celtic Center: The American Red Cross is experiencing a severe blood shortage as the number of trauma cases, organ transplants, and elective surgeries rise and deplete the nation's blood inventory. Donors are strongly urged to give now to help ensure lifesaving blood products are available for patients. Hospital demand continues to outpace donations, and your help is vital. Schedule appointment HERE. Give the Gift of Life!
Consider signing up to pray as a public witness to the dignity of LIFE: We invite you to pray on one of our Tuesdays (Oct 5, 12, 19, & 26) during the 40 Days for Life campaign. We are in need of at least two people per hour to pray, especially for the innocent unborn child. This is a humble, sacrificial act of our faith -- your heart will be pierced and you will be blessed for and by your witness. For information/sign up, click HERE. Want to Walk in Someone Else’s Shoes and Improve Race Relations?
St. Patrick is looking for up to 10 people to participate in a six-week program with two other parishes on improving race relations in the Archdiocese of Louisville and our city. The program, called “Moving Toward Oneness,” is intended to raise awareness, create mutual understanding, and foster new relationships between and among parishes from different parts of town. During six sessions, you will break bread with other Catholics in facilitated conversations about race. If you feel God’s calling, please contact Tim Grove at 719-0362 or tgrove@stpatlou.org.
