Welcome Home!

Weekly #66

Constant Contact Message from 6/22/2021

‌‌‌‌‌‌Hello, everybody!

It has been good to welcome Fr. (Cha) Quan Nguyen to St. Pats and he is off and running. He heard his first session of confessions this week, as well as, went to the hospital for his first Anointing of the Sick. He even took out the garbage at the rectory! As he adjusts to his new ministry as our associate pastor and to life as a priest, please continue to make him feel at home in our community. We will welcome him with the Erhler’s Ice Cream truck after the 11:00 a.m. mass this weekend and with Froggy’s Popcorn bags after every mass. Enjoy and wish him a warm welcome!

We will also be handing out grocery bags in partnership with the Eastern Area Community Ministries (EACM) for our July food drive. Along with the support of our Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent de Paul council, this is an important way for us to help feed the hungry. For a time during the pandemic, there was plenty of food available, but the need has grown again. I am grateful for your help with these efforts!

We are also gearing up for our 2021 Mission Appeal. On July 10/11, we will focus on the local needs of families with children up to five years old in partnership with the Catholic Charities Family Support Program. The funds we raise will go to parenting skills training, maternal health, safe sleep, and car safety. In particular, we will support skills training for mothers on infant care, grandparent training for those who are raising children, accompaniment via Mama Matters and support groups, and Family Support On the Go (FSOTG) where local experts teach ongoing parent training. All of these programs help to strengthen at risk families and provide a better life and future for their children.

Our community is faith-filled, generous, and active. Thank you for making it special! I encourage you to pray for those who need a place to belong and grow with Jesus and to invite them to be part of what God is doing at St. Pats. We are better together! God bless you.

Peace,

Fr. Jeff

Getting To Know Your Parish Family

Meet Haley May and Beckett McKenzie

Haley started at St. Patrick Catholic School in January 2021 in 2nd grade. She came from Hite Elementary School. Haley was an important part of our 2nd grade First Reconciliation and First Communion this year. She read a Philippians passage at Reconciliation and helped seat families at First Communion. Here are a few questions we asked Haley about coming to St. Patrick:

  1. Why did you choose St. Patrick? “Because it will be a better education for me and it is a great school.” Her and her mom, Lindsay, heard about St. Patrick through one of her mom’s friends.
  2. Why was it important to help at First Communion? “Because I like to support my friends.”
  3. What is your favorite part about St. Patrick? “Kind staff members. You can go to anyone if you have a problem, like Ms. Lindon. You can also make friends easily.”
  4. What would you say to your friend if they asked you why they should come to St. Patrick? “The teachers and staff are so kind and thoughtful. They made us drink bottles with our names on them.”

Haley May (middle)

Beckett McKenzie is a rising 3rd grader at St. Patrick Catholic School. He and his family have been members of St. Patrick since 2014. Beckett helps his dad, Jimmy, usher at Mass, so he gets to learn firsthand what it means to give of your time and talent as a good steward. During the pandemic, when we were using an online reservation seating system, Beckett was part of the seating team that worked with Julie Roth, our Director of Worship and Music. The process was based on data and research every weekend and color coded grids and code words were used to seat people. We asked Beckett why he was willing to help seat people at church during the pandemic. He said, “I like it when I get to help people. I like when people know what to do.” His favorite part about St. Patrick is the Catholic School where people get to learn more about Jesus. “It’s a good church and school with kind people and you get treated nice.”

Learning Together

Come As You Are! Inquire about the Catholic faith through the R.C.I.A Process: Are you wondering about life’s deeper meaning and your life’s purpose? Have you attended Mass for years with your Catholic spouse and now feel ready to explore the teachings of the Catholic faith more fully? Has your child's attendance in the Parish Religious Education Program or St. Patrick School led you to an interest in Catholicism? Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are invited to “come as you are.” Find out if the time is right for you to enter the process that leads to the celebration of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and your entry into full communion with the Catholic faith. There are no obligations. The RCIA meets from 6:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Mondays beginning August 16. For more information, contact Tim Grove at 719-0362 or tgrove@stpatlou.org.

Serve As A Sponsor In The RCIA Process At St. Patrick: Every year, men, women, and young adults come to the RCIA process wanting to establish a new or renewed relationship with God and a faith community in the Catholic tradition. Sponsors are always needed to journey with these “inquirers.” Sponsors join the RCIA process in early November and serve as spiritual companions to the inquirers, who seek entry into full communion with the Catholic faith through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Sponsors serve through April as hospitable and welcoming representatives of the parish. Training is provided. Even for sponsors, the RCIA process is a wonderful experience of renewed faith and a deepened spiritual life. If you are feeling called to this form of service, contact Tim Grove, coordinator of RCIA, at 719-0362 or tgrove@stpatlou.org.
