Happy Summer!
Just saying the word summer conjures up feelings of: sunshine, vacations, ice cream, swimming, lemonade, humidity, boating, bare feet, and easy, just to name a few. I’m pinch hitting for Fr. Jeff today as the opening article scribe, fresh off vacation and filled with gratitude! I am approaching my twelfth year working at St. Patrick and would like to take this opportunity to share some of the joys I get to experience on a daily basis as a lay minister of the Church.
My office location is a blessing and commonly referred to as the “fish tank”. It’s amazing what you get to witness throughout the course of a day sitting front and center. From interacting with daily mass participants, to visitors who literally pop in to join the parish, to students smiling, waving and knocking on the windows to make sure I see them, and hard working clergy, staff and maintenance stopping in for a chat, Christ is present in so many beautiful ways. I just came back from a Stewardship Focus Group session at the Pastoral Center this afternoon with other diocesan parish representatives and one thing is for sure, we are all one body, though many parts. We are each called to bring our spiritual gifts to work together as the body of Christ.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy 4th of July weekend. Join us for mass on Monday,
July 4 at 10:00 a.m. The Parish Office will be closed in observance of the holiday.
Take care,
Lynne Marshall
Director of Engagement

Mission Appeal Weekend on July 9/10 with Nativity Academy: We are excited to welcome our friends from Nativity Academy at St. Boniface in Louisville. Nativity Academy is an independent, private, Catholic middle school (6-8 grade) established to educate urban youth. Your gift to Nativity Academy will help cover the cost of the academic, extended day and summer programs. This is the most powerful gift a young boy or girl can receive, given the impact it can have for them over time. Please prayerfully consider supporting this worthy cause and be part of the ongoing success of Nativity Academy students. Donation envelopes will be available at all of the masses next weekend. Do You Have a Longing for Something More? Come As You Are to the RCIA Process: "Our hearts are restless until they rest in you [God]," said St. Augustine, a very famous saint who lived in the 4th and 5th centuries. St. Augustine was referring to the interior longing in each of us that the world cannot satisfy. Do you have that longing for something more? Maybe what you are longing for is an encounter with the living God and his Son and our Savior Jesus Christ? The RCIA Team at St. Patrick invites you to come as you are. Ask questions. Commit to learning about the Catholic faith and how the Catholic faith family serves God by serving others. Come, pray, and open yourself up to an encounter with the one true God in whose image and likeness you are wonderfully made. The RCIA meets from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m., Mondays, beginning August 22. For information, contact Tim Grove at 719-0362 or tgrove@stpatlou.org.
Serve as a Sponsor in the RCA Process: Every year, men, women, and young adults come to the RCIA process wanting to establish a new or renewed relationship with God and a faith community in the Catholic tradition. Sponsors are always needed to journey with these “inquirers.” They join the RCIA process in early November and serve as spiritual companions to the inquirers, who seek entry into full communion with the Catholic faith through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. And they serve through April as hospitable and welcoming representatives of the parish. Training is provided. Even for sponsors, the RCIA process is a wonderful experience of renewed faith and a deepened spiritual life. If you are feeling called to this form of service, please contact Tim Grove, coordinator of the RCIA, at 719-0362 or tgrove@stpatlou.org
Children’s Formation

Catechists: Are you a former teacher or someone who loves sharing their faith and engaging with young Catholics? We have opportunities for you to share those gifts with PREP. Contact Tammy Kessler to learn more at tkessler@stpatlou.org.
Rising 2nd Grade Parents - Sacrament Preparation: Parents with children entering Grade 2 in the upcoming school year should expect a communication soon regarding the preparation schedule for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. Deacon Mark Rougeux Trip to Africa: On July 2, I am finally returning to East Africa to attend the ordination of August Kessey, for whom I am “uncle.” He is being ordained to the priesthood for the diocese of Same, Tanzania, an area south of Kilimanjaro. I have known him since 2004.
I will also visit his sister, Irene, whom the parish has supported through her diploma and baccalaureate degrees in teaching. Irene graduated in December with very high marks. She has been investigating a teaching order of nuns with the thought of joining.
I am flying to Nairobi to meet Br. George Massey, who visited our parish a few years ago. We will drive to the Christian Brothers novice house in Arusha, Tanzania, (about 5 hours) , spend the night, then go on to Same (another 4 hours). Because of prior commitments, I have to return on July 10, so I am not able to visit many people who I would like to see. Please keep August and Irene in your prayers, as well as George and I, for safe and timely travel. - Deacon Mark
