Weekly #124

Constant Contact Message from 8/3/2022

Hello everybody!

I’m sure you have seen that the recent floods in Eastern Kentucky have caused devastating destruction, homelessness, and a tragic loss of life. We have an opportunity to assist those affected by these floods with donations that will be used to support the disaster relief efforts of Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Lexington. We will have a special collection this weekend at all masses in the gathering space or online HERE. Online, choose fund: 2022 Disaster Relief Eastern Kentucky. If turning in a check at the parish, please make it payable to the parish and include the notation: 2022 Eastern Kentucky Disaster Relief. Thank you, as always, for your generosity.

Thanks to those who were able to schedule an in-person photo for our new picture directory. If you would like to submit a photo, please email Lynne Marshall at lmarshall@stpatlou.org no later than August 15 to be included. We are excited to share the new books with those who participated later this fall.

This week, our faculty and staff are back on campus getting their classrooms ready and making preparations for the return of our students. Welcome back! Of course, there are some new faces, too, and I want to extend a warm welcome to those who have joined our amazing team of educators at St. Patrick Catholic School. We will be having a special mass for them tomorrow. I am grateful for their faith, energy, dedication, creativity, love and example. It is wonderful to have them on campus! Please offer a prayer for the start of our new school year. Thanks.

If you have a moment, please also take a look at the video or listen to the podcast of the mission trip to Guatemala. It is an example of how God is at work in and through our community. May God, who has begun this good work, bring it to completion.

Peace,

Fr. Jeff

Guatemala Mission Trip 2022

St. Patrick sent eight high school youth and four adults to Guatemala for a mission trip that was sponsored by the Archdiocese of Louisville Youth and Young Adult Office. We teamed up with "Hearts In Motion'' that is made up of compassionate volunteers who unite their efforts and talents. They provide opportunities for individuals to participate in short-term mission experiences in the U.S., Central, and South America, changing the lives of people in poverty. While in Guatemala, the St. Patrick youth and adults built a 20x20 concrete block home for a family. We also worked at a Daycare by repairing concrete, building tables for the children, and painting the building inside and out. In addition, we assisted at the Eyeglass Clinic by testing vision and handing out glasses to those in need. Participants: Kennedy Elmore/Josh Burge/Benny Mammorella/Allison Braun/Allison Mitchell/Ava Schrader/Roman Schrader/Jonna O'Bryan/John O'Bryan/Birgit Zepf/Elizabeth Braun. The youth and adults that were on this trip are forever changed by the extent of poverty in the world around us.

Monday Believers Bible Study - Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Life is a 10-session, video-based study that was filmed on location in the Holy Land. It offers a fresh look at Jesus - who he is, what he is really like, what he taught, and what he did for our salvation. This encounter will inspire and empower you to center your entire life on Jesus as you come to know and love him in an ever-deeper and more intimate way. Study begins at 9:30 a.m., August 29 with a "meet and greet" in Miles Meeting Room. Second session is 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Sept. 12 and meets weekly on Mondays thereafter until the study concludes in mid November. Each session begins with the praying of the Rosary. Cost is $20 and includes a participant guide, book of the same title, timeline of Jesus' life, and online access to videos. Contact Barb Jennings at (913) 645-2630 or barjenn@me.com for more information. Registration deadline is August 22.

Tuesday MOMS Bible Study - Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Life is a 10-session, video-based study. It will help you discover the meaning of who Jesus is, what he did for us, and the bearing it has on our lives. This study will meet Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. to noon, beginning August 30 through mid November. We offer a FREE nursery for preschool children and younger. Cost is $20. It includes a participant guide, a book of the same title, timeline of Jesus' life, and online access to videos. Contact Karen Savko at (502) 767-8885 or email at nanak.sav@gmail.com.

Thursday Believers Bible Study - Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come: Perhaps no book of the Bible fascinates people more than Revelation. Yet relatively few people have studied it, especially from a Catholic perspective. This study shows how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. Presenter Jeff Cavins pulls back the veil on the rich symbolism present in Revelation. Discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean and how Revelation is more than an apocalyptic vision of the “end times.” This study will meet on Thursdays, 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., beginning Sept. 8 through Nov. 17. Cost is $20.00 and includes a workbook and online access to videos. Register by August 28 by contacting Diana Dages at (502) 419-1898 or dianadages@gmail.com.

There is Still Time to Enter Fully Into the Catholic Faith Through RCIA: The deadline is fast approaching to join the process that forms and prepares you to enter fully into the Catholic faith. Maybe you have attended Mass for years with your Catholic spouse and now feel ready to explore the teachings of the Catholic faith? Perhaps your child's attendance in the Parish Religious Education Program or St. Patrick School led you to an interest in Catholicism? Maybe you are longing for an encounter with the living God and his son and our Savior Jesus Christ. It can happen, you know. Just “come as you are.” Ask questions and learn about the Catholic faith. Find out if the time is right for you to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. There are no obligations. The RCIA meets from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m, Mondays starting August 22. To enroll in the process, click RCIA, complete the online fillable form and submit. Questions? Contact Tim Grove at 719-0362 or tgrove@stpatlou.org.
