Welcome Home!

Weekly #126

Constant Contact Message from 8/16/2022

Hello everybody!

It was amazing to welcome students back to our school this morning and to pray with them as they began the day! We will have our first school mass tomorrow morning and I look forward to having all of our students gathered for worship. Although we have many activities through the summer, it is like our facilities begin to breathe again when filled with students. I extend a warm welcome, especially, to our new students, families, and faculty. It was a great first day and we are better together!

As I mentioned over the weekend, the 12 year old Babe Ruth Jeffersontown, KY team, which includes four of our 7th grade boys (Anderson, Brown, Carroll, and Freibert) and two St. Patrick fathers (Brown and Freibert) who coach, won the USA Championship on Friday night and then defeated the heavily favored Mexico team on Saturday night for the Cal Ripken World Series championship! It is an amazingly difficult and noteworthy accomplishment. My congratulations to them and, for my own enjoyment, I got to try on some of their bling this morning. Well done!

As our new school year and fall season of ministry gets going, I invite everyone to join me and Fr. Quan for the Summer Social on Saturday evening following Mass from 6-9:00 p.m. in the lower back parking lot. My thanks to the Knights of Columbus for hosting our parish community as we gather together for this celebration of family, faith, food, and fun!

I want to share a final word of thanks for all that you do as a community of faith. I went to the St. Joe’s Picnic for the Kids on Saturday and saw so many St. Pats people working the Cake Booth and Beer Booth. Thanks to all, but a special word of thanks to Rich and Joan Flaherty (Cake Booth) and John Coons (Beer Booth) for the hours and hours they devote to this worthy cause!

God bless you all!

Peace,

Fr. Jeff

Monday Believers Bible Study - Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Life  is a 10-session, video-based study that was filmed on location in the Holy Land. It offers a fresh look at Jesus - who he is, what he is really like, what he taught, and what he did for our salvation. This encounter will inspire and empower you to center your entire life on Jesus as you come to know and love him in an ever-deeper and more intimate way. Study begins at 9:30 a.m., August 29 with a "meet and greet" in Miles Meeting Room. Second session is 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Sept. 12 and meets weekly on Mondays thereafter until the study concludes in mid November. Each session begins with the praying of the Rosary. Cost is $20 and includes a participant guide, book of the same title, timeline of Jesus' life, and online access to videos. Contact Barb Jennings at (913) 645-2630 or barjenn@me.com for more information. Registration deadline is August 22.

Tuesday MOMS Bible Study - Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Life is a 10-session, video-based study. It will help you discover the meaning of who Jesus is, what he did for us, and the bearing it has on our lives. This study will meet Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. to noon, beginning August 30 through mid November. We offer a FREE nursery for preschool children and younger. Cost is $20. It includes a participant guide, a book of the same title, timeline of Jesus' life, and online access to videos. Contact Karen Savko at (502) 767-8885 or email at nanak.sav@gmail.com.

Thursday Believers Bible Study - Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come: Perhaps no book of the Bible fascinates people more than Revelation. Yet relatively few people have studied it, especially from a Catholic perspective. This study shows how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. Presenter Jeff Cavins pulls back the veil on the rich symbolism present in Revelation. Discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean and how Revelation is more than an apocalyptic vision of the “end times.” This study will meet on Thursdays, 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., beginning Sept. 8 through Nov. 17. Cost is $20.00 and includes a workbook and online access to videos. Register by August 28 by contacting Diana Dages at (502) 419-1898 or dianadages@gmail.com.

There is Still Time to Enter Fully Into the Catholic Faith Through RCIA: The deadline is next week to join the process that forms and prepares you to enter fully into the Catholic faith. Maybe you have attended Mass for years with your Catholic spouse and now feel ready to explore the teachings of the Catholic faith? Perhaps your child's attendance in the Parish Religious Education Program or St. Patrick School led you to an interest in Catholicism? Maybe you are longing for an encounter with the living God and his son and our Savior Jesus Christ. It can happen, you know. Just “come as you are.” Ask questions and learn about the Catholic faith. Find out if the time is right for you to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. There are no obligations. The RCIA meets from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m., Mondays starting August 22. To enroll in the process, click RCIA, complete the online fillable form and submit. Questions? Contact Tim Grove at 719-0362 or tgrove@stpatlou.org.

St. Patrick's Disciples for Life - Opportunity in New Directions: The St. Pat's Disciples for Life (D4L) was established in 2007 to engage parishioners interested in a variety of pro-life issues. Our initial focus was opposition to the scourge of abortion in our city and supporting groups that offered alternatives for pregnant mom's in need. In light of the recent Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe vs. Wade, the landscape is changing. We feel that time is right to revisit our group's mission and see where our parishioners are motivated to engage. This might include:

  • Advocating for Life in supporting Amendment #2 of the KY State Constitution
  • New ways to support "Moms in Need"
  • Educating parishioners regarding Catholic teaching on the sanctity of life from conception to natural death
  • Future of the "40 Days for Life" campaigns

We would like YOU to be part of this discussion. And want to focus on areas that are important to you. Please join us on Sep 22 at 7:00 p.m. in Miles Meeting Room to discuss what our future mission should hold and how we might best collaborate with local groups to maximize our impact. If you have questions or want additional information, please contact Bob Singleton at (502) 396-3637 or email alison.singleton@att.net.
