Welcome Home!

Weekly #79

Constant Contact Message from 9/21/2021

Hello everybody!

I was blessed to be able to concelebrate the funeral mass for Fr. Tom Boland yesterday at St. Edward Catholic Church. With a nearly full church and over 50 priests and deacons present, it was a fitting and hope filled time of prayer and remembrance for Fr. Tom. A number of our parishioners were present and so was Fr. Oz. He “snuck out” of Nazareth Home for the funeral and it was great to see him. Fr. Oz is finishing his antibiotics and hopes to be going home soon. Thank you for your continued prayers for him and for Fr. Tom’s family. May Fr. Tom rest eternally in God’s love.

This weekend at all our masses, we will be offering the Blessing of the Child in the Womb. We value human life and the dignity of each human person. This blessing for expectant mothers, families, and their children to be born gives me a sense of hope for the future, faith that God is with us, and the centrality of love in our lives. I look forward to this special invocation of God’s grace. I also ask for your prayers for the men who will be both giving and receiving this weekend’s Welcome Retreat. May God bless them in this step of their journey of faith.

Each week, this email is a snapshot of activities at St. Pats as we seek to follow Jesus and join, learn, give, serve, and pray together. God is with us and working through us, especially in the midst of the challenges of our lives and our world. You are a beacon of Christ’s love shining bright. It is an inspiration to me to see your generosity and action to live our faith and make a difference for the better in the lives of others. There are many additional ministries and activities each week that are not mentioned in this email, but have a significant impact. Throughout the pandemic our parish continued to grow, but just this calendar year, 76 new families have made the faith decision to call St. Pats their home and nearly 100 new students entered our school for the first time. My calendar is filling up with weddings for the next year and baptism preparation and celebration is strong. Your giving and participation at St. Pats and with a host of our partner ministries is extraordinary and attendance and participation at our weekend liturgies has been on the rise. God is doing something special here. What’s your next best step in following Jesus?

I am deeply grateful to be your pastor and humbled by your faith and desire to do good. Thank you and may God bless us all.

Peace,

Fr. Jeff

We invite you to sign-up to pray on one of our Tuesdays (Sept 28, Oct 5, 12, 19, & 26) during the campaign. We are in need of at least two people per hour to stand as prayerful, public witnesses to the dignity of LIFE, especially the innocent unborn child. This is a humble, sacrificial act of our faith -- your heart will be pierced and you will be blessed for and by your witness. For information/sign up, click HERE. Contact Bob Singleton at

It’s Soup Time! Support Catholic Charities Common Table Program: With cooler weather upon us – it's perfect for soup. Catholic Charities Common Table program offers 6 week soup subscriptions. Each week you receive a quart of soup and a small loaf of fresh baked bread that’s delicious. Our priests and parishioners have raved about the taste of both the soup and the bread. And it supports job training and placement for underprivileged students. Order by October 4 at www.cclou.org/soup. Pickup is Wednesdays at Noon at the church entrance starting October 13. Questions? Contact Deacon Scott Haner at (502) 262-8282.

Want to Walk in Someone Else’s Shoes and Improve Race Relations?

St. Patrick is looking for up to 10 people to participate in a six-week program with two other parishes on improving race relations in the Archdiocese of Louisville and our city. The program, called “Moving Toward Oneness,” is intended to raise awareness, create mutual understanding, and foster new relationships between and among parishes from different parts of town. During six sessions, you will break bread with other Catholics in facilitated conversations about race. If you feel God’s calling, please contact Tim Grove at (502) 719-0362 or tgrove@stpatlou.org.
