Weekly #89

Constant Contact Message from 11/30/2021

‌‌‌‌December is supposed to be a transitional time of year. Most of the trees have lost their leaves, the weather is getting colder and we look to the approaching winter. At this time, everything seems a bit quieter; it is supposed to be a good time to think about being thankful for the events of the past year and of looking forward in hope to the coming of a new year. We have just celebrated Thanksgiving and we move through each Advent week by lighting one more candle on our wreaths. This season of Advent, the beginning of the Church’s new liturgical year, is an opportunity for us to take the time to enjoy the journey. It helps proceed a little more slowly and intentionally towards Christmas, to notice what God is doing in our lives and in the world around us and to help us be better prepared to welcome Jesus anew.

Next weekend, we will offer the Blessing of the Child in the Womb at all Masses. All expectant mothers, fathers, and families are encouraged to present yourselves for this special blessing. This blessing reminds us of the meaning of Advent and Christmas. Just as Mary and Joseph eagerly awaited the birth of Jesus, families expecting children experience great joy and receive the gifts of hope, peace, and love.

Please join us for Postcards and Popcorn, a family event, tomorrow (Wednesday), where we will make cards for people in nursing homes. All of you are invited to participate in this Advent event anytime from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in Schindler Hall. This is a meaningful activity of preparation for Christmas through sharing and bringing joy, hope, and love to others. In doing this, we light a candle of peace to dispel the coldness of loneliness in their hearts. There will also be Confessions at 6:30 p.m. in the church.

You are also invited to bring the kids to visit with St. Nick this Saturday and eat cookies and drink hot cocoa. There are many activities for the children in this significant event which also contributes to supporting our Youth Ministry program.

We are looking for volunteers to deliver poinsettias to parishioners who have lost loved ones over the past year. This is a wonderful opportunity to gather with family members, friends or as part of a ministry group to brighten someone’s day who is grieving the loss of a loved one. Advent is an opportunity to unite ourselves closer to God’s love through our sacrifice and sharing our blessings with others. I hope you find something that will inspire your spiritual journey to invite the Lord to come more fully into your lives.

Peace and Blessings!

Fr. Quan Nguyen
